UPDATE ***** CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING
Thomas Paine's book, The Age Of Reason, is part of the Sacred Texts website (see http://www.sacred-texts.com/aor/paine/intro.htm ). As written in the Intro (quoting): "Paine's 'Reason' is only an expansion of the Quaker's 'inner light'; and the greater impression, as compared with previous republican and deistic writings made by his 'Rights of Man' and 'Age of Reason' (really volumes of one work), is partly explained by the apostolic fervor which made him a spiritual, successor of George Fox." This is true -- and Paine's Inner Light is the same exact Source of Knowledge as presented by Giordano Bruno when Bruno stated: "Within every man there is a soul-flame, kindled at the sun of thought, which lends us wings whereby we may approach the sun of knowledge."
But what this means is that Paine's portrayal and measurement of "Reason" is in accord with the person's ability to tap into the "Inner Light". And of this "Inner light" the disciple Peter wrote that the Light "is inoperative" in those who fail to seek this inner Source of Knowledge (see http://americancrisiscommonsense.blogspot.com/2017/12/can-deism-be-restored.html ). Which means that the Atheists who promote their faux-deism in the name of the Enlightened Deists of the past, are promoting the absence of light (anti-light) -- which means that what they portray as reason, is in reality anti-reason.
Just before getting myself barred from the Deist group, I was told that there is no such thing as learning from an "Inner Source" -- which, in accord with the words of both Bruno and Paine, would amount to abject ignorance based upon anti-reason, and the epitome of revealed religion.
Before Deism can arise to it former greatness and truth, sincere Deists must themselves oppose the faux-deists and their quasi atheist-religion of revealed deism that they promote in the name of the Enlightened Deists of the past.
